Puerto Banus was founded by José Banus back in the '70s and since then has grown from a small fishing village into a popular and fashionable marina often frequented by the rich and famous.
Situated just a few kilometres west of Marbella, before San Pedro, it has a fantastic mountain backdrop as well of course as beautiful sea views and its location makes it an ideal holiday destination, for those that can afford it, or a great place to spend a day window shopping and people watching, for those who can't.
Puerto Banus attracts some of the most magnificent yachts on the Mediterranean and the shops are to die for with some of the most exclusive names in the fashion world to be found there. In addition there is a large commercial centre, a Corte Ingles department store, a marine observatory and a multi-screen cinema showing films in both Spanish and English. Saturday mornings sees the ever popular street market next to the Bullring.
Needless to say the bars and restaurants are of the highest calibre with cuisine from all over the world on offer. Enjoy sipping a drink at one of the quay side bars, soaking up the atmosphere while celebrity spotting.
If you visit Puerto Banus at nightime then you will be able to enjoy some of the best nightlife to be found on the Costa del Sol. There are plenty of alfresco bars, piano clubs, casinos and discos to choose from and the partying goes on until the early hours of the morning.
For a bird's eye view of Puerto Banus, and it's near perfect setting, you can take a boat trip from the central promenade, these leave on a regular basis. Or for the less adventurous you can laze on the adjacent beach which has been awarded the coverted European Blue Flag.
So if you are staying on the western end of the Costa del Sol then be sure to visit Puerto Banus to see how the other half live.
