Here we will cover some of the most important and popular Spanish verbs in
the five most common tenses, present, past imperfect, past historic, future and conditional.

There are 2 past tenses in Spanish and it is important to understand the difference in order to use them correctly. The past imperfect is used to indicate an action that took place at an indefinite period of time whereas the past historic is used to describe an action that took place at a particular time:-

e.g.Nadábamosen el rio todos los dias. We swam (used to swim) inthe river every day.

Ayer nadámos en el rio. Yesterday we swam in the river.

Siempre fumaba un puro después de cenar. He always smoked (used tosmoke) a cigar after dinner.

Anoche fumó un puro después de cenar. Last night he smoked a cigar after dinner.

Unlike in English all Spanish verbs either end in ar, er, ir so with regular verbs it is just a matter of learning the correct endings and then you will know how to conjugate the verbs depending on who or what it is you are talking about. Unfortunately of course there are alot of irregular verbs too and these have to be learnt individually to take into account the various changes.

I have avoided the repetitious use of the subject pronouns in order to emphasize the verb forms but just as a reminder I put them here:-

I yo

You (fam.) tú

You ( polite) Usted

We nosostros (nosostras)

You (fam.pl.) vosotros (vosotras)

You (polite pl) Ustedes.
