Tips to help you learn a second language.

In Spanish there are two verbs for the English "to know." One is saber and the other is conocer.

Saber is used when talking about something you know how to do,e.g.¿sabe Ud. nadar? Do you know how to swim.

¡Quién sabe! Who knows! perhaps!

Conocer is used when talking about a person or a place, e.g.¿conoce Ud. a esa mujer? Do you know that woman?Sí, la conozco. Yes , I know her.

Conocer is irregular in the 1st. person of the present tense.

Present tense

conozco, conoces, conoce, conecemos, conocéis, conocen

Past imperfect

conocía, conocías, conocía, conocíamos, conocíais, conocían

Past historic

conocí, conociste, conocío, conocimos, conocisteis, conocieron

Future

conoceré, conocerás, conocerá, conoceremos, conoceréis, conocerán

Conditional

conocería, conocerías, conocería, conoceríamos, conoceríais, conocerían
