The Sealife Centre, located at the marina onBenalmadena Costa, houses an impressivecollection of underwater creatures, some familiar and some quite fantasitigorical. As you enter Sealife the first display you encounteris a large open tank containing a marvellous display of stingrays. One ofthe most remarkable things about this feature is the closeness of the creatures,You can observe them so clearly and even obtain food for them which they will takefrom your hand.
You are encouraged to wander around at a leisurely place and enjoy to the full all the wonderful creatures in their accessible enclosures. You willencounter starfish, hermit crabs, sea snakes, angel fish, lobsters, seahorses, cardinal fish, sea turtles, scorpion fish, conger eels, yellow-tailed sturgeon, jellyfish and sea slugs. The imaginative tanks, several with shipwreck themes, have magnifying and minifying glass which works effectively to give a three-dimensional wide-ocean feel.
However one of the most impressive features at Sealife Benalmadena is the glass tunnel where you will be able to watch large sharks and rays swimming above you. It gives you the opportunity to really observe these fascinating creatures first hand, but without the danger!
A great deal of thought and planning has gone into the designing of Sealife Benalmadena, with the emphasis partly on the young but also on enabling peoplein general to get the most out of their encounter with these incredible creatures and the world that the inhabit, which you would never otherwise be able to see.
The whole centre is very education and conservation oriented. The staff are happyto answer any questions you may have about the creatures in their chargeand they do a lot of work with schools and educational visits.
In addition they take a very active role in conservation, doing a lotof work behind the scenes in their breeding programme. Someof the animals bred here are later released into the wild to help increasewild populations. They belong to a group of 25 European aquarium centresand the one at Benalmadena also has its own troubleshooting team who arededicated to the rescue and preservation of the Costa del Sol's marine life.
