Not many years ago Sabinillas on the Costa del Sol was a sleepy little fishing village whose inhabitants made a hard and somewhat uncertain living from the sea.
However in recent times this has all changed as the pace of growth and development on the Western Costa del Sol has caught up with the town and Sabinillas has turned into a thriving holiday resort.
One of the most pleasant improvements has been the cleaning up of the beach and the instalation of a wide, paved promenade all the way along the front and the subsequent opening of many beachside bars and excellent restaurants, fresh fish of course still featuring very highly in the cuisine of the area.
The quality of holiday accommodation in the area has also of course improved with the construction of many new apartment blocks offering excellent facilities. There is no major hotel in Sabinillas though so it doesn't tend to attract large hoards of package holiday makers but does attract many people from all over Spain who have bought holiday apartments there.
Each year Sabinillas on the Costa del Sol combines with Manilva to hold their annual feria in July. This has recently been moved to a newly constructed feria site just outside the town and is a fantastic few days of music, dancing and revelry.Another one of Sabinillas' festivals takes place on June 23rd. which is El Noche de San Jaun when there is a fantasitc party on the beach with a bonfire and firework displays.

In 1990 there was a little car boot sale in the car park of the Moorhouse Pub in Sabinillas. For several years it was only supported by a few expats but then it caught the attention of a wider group of people looking for a bargain and has gone from strength to strength. The Sunday morning Sabinillas rastro is nowone of the biggest on the coast having been featured in various television programmes about life on the Costa del Sol and has also been supported by the bullfighter Javier Conde who dropped in for a bargain. From humble beginnings it has now had to change location four times in order to accommodate its growing popularity and is currently held on the large feria groundon the Roman Oasis road. However you still need to come early in order to find somewhere to park.
In conclusion then Sabinillas on the Costa del Sol has much to offer the holidaymaker. It has a good selection of shops, bars and restaurants, a lovely beach and promenade, an excellent boot market as well as a popular Friday street market. The standard of accommodation on offer is of a good quality and if all that is not enough for you then it is also well placed for you to be able to visit, Estepona, Gibraltar,Duquesa Port Sotogrande and of course all the excellent golf courses along this stretch of the coast.
