Review Finca el Rio

"It was Kahlil Gibran who wrote "for thought is a bird of space that in a cage of words may unfold its wings but never fly". Words are indeed often not enough.

So too with trying to describe the beauty of the mountains of the Sierra de las Nieves which surround the Finca del Rio or indeed the garden, the fruit trees, Frank and Lina's attentiveness or the general area around their holiday retreat.

Nothing better than a jacuzzi after a long days walking.

We arrived late on a Saturday night and awoke on the the first morning of our two week stay from Mid Sept 2010. Once up high on any of those mountains on our many walks, the view was truly breathtaking.

We had gone to experience the walking and were not disappointed. I suppose I am something of a philistine but I had not expected the splendor of what I saw. We did not have to travel very far although did get to Ronda, Granada and the lakes around Ardales (recommended by Lina), where the swimming was superb. The Gorge at El Chorro was not far from this and again, not to be missed.

I loved the holiday, the daily soak after long mountain walks, the early morning walk with Sascha , one of the dogs. Flamenco at Mijas, the Alhambra, the bridges at Ronda, the walks along the river at El Burgo or those around Tolox which are local to the Finca.

Lina spent an evening looking for accessible day time Flamenco for us on the internet. She found it and we enjoyed it and I would give this as an example of a question she took a lot of trouble to answer.

We did not want to come away and arrived at 1.00am into a cold wet Bristol and a flat battery in the airport car park. In the morning we had walked three of the dogs in temperatures of 30 C. I have not stopped shivering since I returned.

Thank you Lina, Thank you Frank, Yoda, Fluffy, Rufus, Sascha and Taz (our names for the dogs) for a wonderful holiday. You have whetted our appetite for Andalucia and we will no doubt return."
