Parque la Bateria, Torremolinos.
Enjoy the peace and space of the recently renovated Parque la Bateria in Torremolins. Parque la Bateria is a beautiful open space to the west of Torremolinos town centre. Its original use was as a gun emplacement and military base in the 1940s.
Its strategic location´ona hill overlooking and guarding Málaga Bay made it an obvious site for such an installation.Communication tunnels along with cartridge and shell stores were built under the gun platforms and protected accommodation for the artillery personal staffing the area was also constructed. During the 1950s the army left the area and it then became overgrown and neglected. However in recent years the whole area has been renovated and developed to provide a lovely park and recreation area. It incorporates a 9,000 sq.metre lake, cycle tracks, children´s playground, fountains and statues and foot paths all set in well landscaped parkland of some 74,000 sq.metres which has been planted with about 40 different species of trees from all around the world some of which are rare or endangered and are being preserved in Torremolinos.
Its original purpose as a military base has not been forgotten either and you will be able to see some of the original guns strategically placed around Parque la Bateria. The underground facilities have also been opened to the public and children will enjoy exploring them. You will also be able to appreciate its strategic position by climbing the 15m.high tower that looks out across the bay, for the less energetic a lift has been thoughtfully installed. There is plenty of parking so why not take a trip to the Parque la Bateria at Torremolinos and enjoy the peace and open space in this otherwise crowded resort.
