Cortijo Roman is a registered Casa Rural and as such the standard of the accommodation, swimming pool and grounds are very high.

It was once a traditional working Andalucian farm but has now been sympathetically and tastefully restored by the British owners to offer accommodation in 4 delightful and quite individual cottages. These are set around a flower bedecked central courtyard but each one has a private entrance and it's own secluded patio and garden area with a BBQ.

The immediate gardens are well cared for and quite delightful and the whole is set in some nine hectares of wild flower meadows with marvellous views of the historic old town of Jimena in the distance, with it's castle sitting atop of the hill. This is lit up at night and is a wonderful site.

A wooden bridge across a stream takes you to the large swimming pool, 14m x 8m with a deep end of 2.4m. This is immaculately kept with plenty of deck chairs and sun loungers some in full sun and some in the shade.There are showers and toilets, one with wheelchair access. Although the pool is not available for general public use it meets the official EU Health & Safety standards for a public pool and the owners carry an Operator's Licence. The purification is controlled by modern automatic equipment but as an extra precaution they check the water twice daily and also regularly take samples for laboratory analysis.

Cortijo Roman offers self contained accommodation for 2-4 people.However extra beds can be provided if required as well as cots and high chairs. The cottages all have lofty beamed ceilings which keep them cool in the summer and wood burning stoves which make them cosy and ideal for an autumn/winter break.

They have all been tastefully and comfortably fitted and furnished in a traditional Andalucian country style. The kitchens are very well equipped with gas hob, double ceramic sinks, microwave, fridge/freezer, automatic washing machine, electric kettle, toaster and juicer, iron and ironing board and plenty of pots, pans, crockery and glassware, etc. There is one cottage, Casa Romero, which has a full oven.They also have a basic supply of herbs,olive and sunflower oils ,salt, pepper,vinegar,teabags and sugar.

As well as access to the central courtyard with it's beautiful flower beds and lovely cloister style walkway each cottage has a second door leading out on to it's own private patio and garden. These are all well maintained being full of colourful Mediterranean flowers, have their own wooden patio furniture with umbrellas and BBQs. Absolutely perfect for spending the warm summer evenings dining al fresco and taking in the peace and quiet of the wonderful surroundings.

Each cottage has a full bathroom tiled in traditional blue and white tiles, with a full length bath with shower attachment, toilet and hand basin.

The two two bedroomed cottages, Casa Morera and Casa Jazmin, have one twin and one double bedroom, and the two one bedroom cottages, Casa Romero and Casa Golondrinos each have a double bed.Casa Romero also has the advantage of two built in sofa beds.

The historic town of Jimena de la Frontera is just a short distance away and here you will find a good selection of shops, bars and restaurants. It is a typical Andalucian "Pueblo Blanco" which has been inhabited for many a long centuary and the Moors have left their mark in the form of the castle remains which overlook the town.

Cortijo Roman is set on the edge of the wonderful cork oak forest of Los Alcornocales. The 170,000 hectares that make up this most important national park are home to an incredible diversity of flora and fauna, including roe and fallow deer, foxes, badgers, otters, martins, genets and mongeese, many lizards and snakes, turtles and frogs. Insects include praying mantis, scorpions, giant centipedes and numerous crickets, grasshoppers and cicadas. The variety of birdlife is quite stunning and includes many indigenous species of owls, buzzards, fish eagles and many other birds of prey, vultures and a vast array of migratory species. The flora too is remarkable, and the spring wild flowers an absolute delight with some quite rare species, especially orchids.

Cortijo Roman is well situated to visit many places of interest. You can take the train from nearby Estacion de Jimena up to Ronda and even carry onto Granada. Alternatively it is a nice drive through much scenic countryside and many Pueblos Blancos to the same town. Sevilla and Jerez are also within striking distance. It is about a 30 minute run down to the coast and about 40 kilometers in all to Gibraltar.

In conclusion then these delightful holiday cottages, in the most beautiful setting, offer perfect accommodation for a very relaxing holiday whilst at the same time you are in an ideal location to explore all the best that this part of Andalucia has to offer.
