Andalucia is the warm and vibrant soul of Southern Spain. The wonderful sunny climate is well reflected in the sunny outlook of its people. The countryside is large, unspoilt and uncluttered by excess civilisation. Even today, in the early part of the 21st. century, traditional village and country life is still in evidence in Andalucia as no-where else in western Europe. It is the perfect place for a relaxing holiday but at the same time offers much diversity with itīs varying landscapes from sea to sierra, itīs multitude of ferias and fiestas, it is after all the birthplace of Flamenco,and itīs healthful and varied Mediterranean diet along with itīs own regional wines and sherries.
Andalucian Flora and Fauna
Andalucia has the largest area of land mass designated to nature reseves in Europe. The largest and most famous of which is the internationally famous Coto Doņana Park.Here still lives the Lynx and the Imperial Eagle.There are also many species of birds and animals to be found, some resident and breeding, some just resting on their migatory journeys.However the beauty of a holiday in Andalucia is that you do not have to visit a reserve to see a memorable sight as it is quite possible to see a Booted eagle, Griffon Vulture, Beeater, mongoose or wild boar as you drive through the wonderful unspoilt countryside. The land is large and spacious with so much to explore either on foot or by car. For the most part you are free to go where you will and for off-roaders there are miles and miles of endless tracks with the excitement being that you never know where you are going to end up!

There are many wonderful places of historic interest to visit in Andalucia and below I have listed just a few. The real pleasure in a holiday here though lies in discovering that unknown corner, the off the beaten tourist track place, of which there are still plenty. Look on a holiday in Andalucia as one of adventure and discovery and you will have a fantastic time.
La Mezquitta is a marvellous Cathedral-Mosque which makes a trip to Cordoba worthwhile. They also produce beautiful Andalucian ceramics here so be prepared to go home laden! May is Fiesta time when the whole town lets itīs hair down for virtually the whole of the month
La Alhambra Palace of course is the most famous monument in Granada although La Cappilla Real, burial place of Ferdinand and Isabel and the Cathedral are excellent buildings in their own right. Before going into the City take the road to Guadix and stop at the Mirador ( view point) San Cristobal. From here you get a fantastic view of old Moorish Granadaspread out on the hill below you.
The two most visited monuments in Ronda are El Tajo, the spectacular and rather terrifying natural gorge,along with the oldest bull ring in Spain. However the whole town is full of delightful old buildings and pretty squares so just spend some time exploring.There are some super antique shops too although these have become rather pricey recently with the increase in tourists, so be prepared to haggle. A lovely way to visit Ronda is by train. You can pick this up at Algeciras, San Roque, Jimena, Gaucin and quite a few other little villages on the way. It is a beautiful ride and you get to see parts of the Andalucian countryside untouched by roads.
Andalucia is reknowned for itīs "pueblos blancos", or white villages.They are usually a maze of twisting, often traffic free streets, which are wonderful just to spend time wandering around exploring with their white washed flower bedecked walls and patios. Many of them are spectacularly built clinging to the sides of mountains and they all seem quite timeless.
If you take the road from Ronda to Gaucin you will pass through many pretty pueblos blancos, or take a detour off the main roard and discover some more.Likewise the road from Marbella to Coin will take you passed Ojen, Monda and Guaro all pretty towns in their own right.Casares is probably the most famous of them, it is certainly the most photographed, but even so, along with all the others, it has managed to retain itīs essential Spanishness . The people are friendly and welcoming and their love of live is readily passed onto visitors. There is always a good selection of bars, serving tapas and local fare, and a good selection of local characters. Make your Andalucia holiday come alive and enjoy the natural scenary and the wonderful villages.
